We support the following servicesStudent TransportGovernment, in deciding on the school transport policy, has been careful not to intrude unnecessarily on both the individual caregiver’s choice and responsibility to arrange for their child’s education. The school transport assistance policy should therefore be looked upon as a form of assistance only and not as the complete removal of responsibility from the caregivers. Overall, the government does not undertake to provide a ‘door to door’ service but expects children either to make their own way over a portion of the distance to school or to be conveyed part way by caregivers. This concept of sharing responsibilities has proved highly successful in the typical conditions encountered in New Zealand. Against this background there are clearly articulated limits on the various types of assistance that can be provided. Full details of the Policy are available on the Ministry of Education website. Not all students who travel to school are eligible for assistance. Sometimes 'eligible students' do not attend their nearest school.
