Parents and caregivers should communicate directly with the school over their child's school transport needs.

All schools served by a Ministry funded school bus services must keep eligible student data (updated on a per term basis) and readily available to forward to Service Agents or your bus controllers to ensure that route design, reviews, amendments etc are done in a timely manner.  This information is also required for when an event occurs relating to a Ministry funded school bus route, e.g. accidents/incidents/overloading or behaviour management.  This is to ensure that Service Agents are able to identify the students affected, the number of students involved and the route in question.  All schools served by the Ministry funded school bus service(s) must have this information available at all times. You may be contacted by either the bus controller or your local Transport Manager requesting this information when reviewing these routes in which case data will be sought and notice given. There is an expectation from schools to submit information requested within the time frame given.  In the case of events; this information may be requested at NO NOTICE.

Eligibility

Eligibility for a conveyance allowance is determined by the age of your child, the distance traveled ( to your nearest school which is appropriate for the student's age level and any special character requirements), and if there is suitable public transport available.

Nearest school policy

In order for your child to be eligible for conveyance allowance they must meet the nearest school policy.  In addition there must not be suitable public transport between home and the nearest school (regardless of whether or not that school is attended) for the student to be eligible. ( This information can be found on the MOE website or in the eligibility outline to the right)

Transport Entitlement Zone   (TEZ)

The TEZ is used when 'eligible students' do not attend their nearest school. Assistance is given in the zone of the attended school only and may therefore be less than the assistance available for travel to the nearest school despite being a longer journey.
